Jatukham Rammathep (จตุคาม รามเทพ)

Jatukham Rammathep is the name of an unusually popular amulet in Thailand. The amulet is named for two princes of the Krung Srivijaya Kingdom of southern Thailand, and is believed to provide protection and good fortune to the bearer.

The history of Jatukham Rammathep amulets began in 1987. It was around the time that Nakorn Si Thammarat – a southern province of Thailand, had been found in the situation with lots of epidemic and crime. Major General Sanpetch Thammatikul was, therefore, transferred to help solve the problem. He had surprisingly witnessed several events leading him to the construction of the City Shrine.

However, the City Shrine project could never have been done successfully without assistance from “Khun Phantharak Rajjadej” – a local famous person who was believed to be rich in magical power. The original Jatukham Rammathep amulets were then designed by Maj. Gen. Sanpetch Thammatikul, partly as a gift for the donation to the City Shrine construction. Jatukham-Rammathep especially represents the City Deity of the Nakorn Si Thammarat Province in southern Thailand.

Over the doorway at the entrance of Phra Mahathad Voramahaviharn Temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat, there are the statutes of Lord Kadtukam and Lord Ramathep, the guardian gods of holy relics of Lord Buddha. The name of one god is Lord Kadtukam which later people understand that it as Jatukham. This temple is the place where the Jatukham Rammathep blessing ceremonies need to be performed.

During the past two years, especially following on the death of Khun Phantharak Rajjadej, Jatukham Rammathep amulets began to grow wildly in popularity among Thais who believed in their ability to grant good fortune and solve personal problems. The amulets were initially distributed by a temple in the town of Nakhon Si Thammarat in southern Thailand. As the demand for these amulets grew, they began to also be produced at other temples in Thailand. To most believers, Jatukham Rammathep’s miracle remains good fortune for good persons with good karma.

A Visit to the Foundation For Children

During our trip to Thailand this year, AmericanThai.net got a wonderful opportunity to visit "Moo Baan Dek Sarnrak Kindergarten for Orphans and Poor Children (โรงเรียนอนุบาลหมู่บ้านเด็กสานรัก)" of the Foundation for Children (www.ffc.or.th).  Milan's first impression about the foundation was that the children looked like they were having a very good time.  They were also very kind and friendly to her.  Milan would, therefore, strongly recommend that we all visit the foundation some day.
